Scooter explosion in Kanpur market injures 6, forensic probe underway
Six people, including a woman, were injured on Wednesday evening when an explosion rocked a busy market in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, media reports said.

The blast occurred around 7 pm in Mishri Bazaar of the Moolganj area, a locality known for its dense cluster of firecracker shops.
The explosion reportedly originated from two parked scooters, completely destroying them and damaging nearby shops.
“There was a loud explosion, followed by thick smoke and debris all over,” said Joint Police Commissioner Ashutosh Kumar.
“Six people, including a woman, were injured. The scooters have been identified, and their owners have been called for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.”
Following the blast, police teams, a forensic unit, and a bomb disposal squad rushed to the site. The area has been cordoned off as experts sift through debris to determine the cause of the explosion.
“Some nearby shops were affected; toys and other goods were scattered, and the blast shattered glass windows and damaged false ceilings,” Kumar added.
The injured were shifted to the Ursula Government Hospital for treatment. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the explosion involved any explosive material or firecrackers.
“Our teams are examining the remains of the scooters and surrounding debris. Only after the forensic report will we be able to confirm what triggered the blast,” the officer said.
