Woman's half-burnt body found in Mirza, four miscreants arrested, one ASI suspended
Congress, CPI (M) met victim family, demands immediate police action
Amidst mystery over recovery of half-burnt body of a woman in a road at Mizra area of Gomati district on Friday, police on Saturday registered an FIR against five miscreants including nephew of local BJP MLA and has also suspended one ASI of police for dereliction in duty.
Police sources said that as per the complaint of Pankaj Sarkar, husband of the victim woman, Anjali Sarkar, an FIR has been registered against Anupam Majumder alais Manna, who is the nephew of BJP's Kakraban-Salgarh MLA Jitendra Majumder, Litan Das, Kinkar Das, Diptanu Das and Akash Das.
Police added that soon after registering the complaint at Kakrabon police station, they have launched a massive manhunt in different areas to arrest suspected accused and on Saturday night, they have managed to arrest four among five miscreants involved in the incident.
While, giving details of the incident, SP(Gomati) Kiran Kumar said that they have registered a case of abetment of suicide in the incident that happened in Mirza in the Kakrabon police station area.
He said that medical report reports confirmed that there were no sign of rape and the lady has committed suicide after brawl and scuffle with suspected accused persons on Thursday evening at Mirza motor stand area.
He said that one police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Sanjoy Sarkar was also suspended for negligence in duty and investigation of the incident going on.
Anjali Sarkar’s half-burnt body of a woman was found on Saturday morning , following which her husband alleged that she died by suicide after being assaulted by associates of the local BJP MLA.
"Initially, we registered a case of unnatural death. Later, a case of abetment of suicide was registered. We have started an investigation. More sections under the BNS will be added based on information received during the investigation," said SP.
The woman's husband alleged that five persons, including Manna Majumder, who is the nephew of BJP's Kakraban-Salgarh MLA Jitendra Majumder, severely assaulted him and his wife on Friday night and they have also video of the incident.
Thereafter, the couple went to the police station to lodge a complaint, but they refused to accept it, alleged Pankaj Sarkar, husband of the victim lady.
He added that they returned home and went to sleep separately as they often do. On Friday morning, my wife's half-burnt body was found on a nearby road, said Pankaj and added that Manna Majumder and his companions are responsible for the death of his wife.
Two teams of CPI(M) and Congress legislators on Saturday visited the house of victim lady and met her husband and two children including son Priyankshu Sarkar (14) and daughter Debashree Sarkar (12)
Senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman along with Birajit Sinha speaking with media persons at Mirza demanded arrest of all accused persons and immediate removal of OC- Kakraban police station, Jayanta Malakar for negligence in duty.
The opposition Congress attacked the police over the incident, alleging that they were trying to shield the accused. "Firstly, the police did not register their complaint. What is more disturbing is that the couple was chased by the accused when they were returning from the police station. It seems that the police are trying to shield the accused," said Birajit Sinha.
A CPI(M) team led by MLA Shyamal Chakraborty also met the bereaved family and demanded immediate police action against all culprits , responsible for the death of Anjali Sarkar.
Locals said that the couple was also known as BJP members in the area.
