20-year-old drunk man mows down woman in Bengaluru with speeding Mercedes-Benz
Bengaluru: A 30-year-old woman was killed after a speeding Mercedez Benz, allegedly driven by a 20-year-old drunk man, hit her in Bengaluru’s Kengeri on Saturday evening, media reports said.
The incident took place as Sandhya tried to cross the road, and Dhanush, allegedly intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident, reported India Today.
The driver has been identified as Dhanush, who was allegedly over the legal alcohol limit, according to the report.
After the collision, Dhanush tried to flee the scene but was stopped by bystanders, who restrained and confronted him before police took over.
He was arrested by Kengeri traffic police and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
He has been placed in judicial custody for 14 days.
The car was identified as recently purchased by his father, Veera Shiva, who operates a private bus company.
The DCP of Traffic West confirmed the arrest. "We have apprehended the accused immediately, and he has been sent to judicial custody," he said.
Reports indicate that Dhanush took the vehicle for an outing with a friend, beginning with drinks at a Yeshwanthpur mall, after which they headed to Mysuru Road for a late-night drive.
In another hit-and-run case on Saturday night, a 26-year-old delivery rider was killed when a speeding car struck his bike.
He was en route to pick up his wife in KG Nagar when the accident occurred at around 10:20 pm on MV Seetharamaiah Road in Gavipura.
