Three dead, one critical
The Coastal Road Control Room received information about the accident at around 5:20 am.
All four occupants were rushed to Mumbai's Nair Hospital. Doctors declared three of them dead on arrival, while a 20-year-old man was admitted to the trauma ward in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal and 17-year-old Dhirya Seth. The identity of the third victim, a 25-year-old man, is yet to be confirmed.
BMW completely wrecked
The impact left the luxury car severely damaged.
The BMW tore through a signboard hanging from the bridge before plunging down.
Its roof was pushed inward, the windshield was shattered and the front portion was completely crushed, with the bumper ripped off and internal components exposed.
Police probe underway
Mumbai Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the allegation that the BMW was being driven at high speed.
The accident comes weeks after Mumbai Police booked drivers of several supercars over alleged racing inside a Coastal Road tunnel.
On September 3, cases were registered against six to seven cars, including a Lamborghini, BMW M2 and BMW Z4, for alleged negligent driving and endangering life or personal safety under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
