Amid RG Kar protests, actress Payel Mukherjee 'attacked' by biker in Kolkata
Kolkata/IBNS: Amid the sea of city-wide ongoing protests against the RG Kar incident, Bengali actress Payel Mukherjee on Friday said she was allegedly attacked by a bike-borne miscreant in Kolkata's posh area Southern Avenue while she was driving.

Payel took to social media to share a video where she narrated the incident.
The actress claimed "the bike had rather touched her car", prompting the man to knock on her car's window.
After the accused asked her to open the gate, the actress refused to do so out of fear of getting molested. Then, as Payel narrated, the accused smashed the window pane.
"Amid all the protests that are going on, this is the kind of security women have in the city right now," said Payel who was visibly terrified and shocked at the incident.
The accused has been detained by police.
The incident occurred at a time massive rallies protesting against the rape and murder of 31-year-old junior doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and demanding justice for the victim are being conducted on a regular basis.
Slamming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Locket Chatterjee posted on X, "What a horrific incident has occurred with Payel Mukherjee, a beloved figure in the fashion and movie industry! Despite the outcry over the #RGKar case, it's clear that women are still not safe in this state. Crime rates are soaring as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's actions and mentality seem to indirectly support criminals. Her lack of decisive action and recent statements suggest an unsettling alignment with criminal elements, eroding public safety and the rule of law.
"Even amidst widespread protest, similar atrocities are being committed against nurses, actresses, students, and medical officers. The collapse of law and order in Paschim Banga is evident, with incidents of car vandalism and attacks on women occurring even in busy areas like Southern Avenue, Kolkata. Imagine the situation in rural areas. A big thank you to Payel Mukherjee for courageously bringing this urgent issue to light through Facebook Live. It's time for accountability."
