Assam minor girl rape: Accused dies in pond escapaing from police custody at crime scene
Guwahati/IBNS: In a bizarre scenario, the accused in the case pertaining to the rape of a minor girl, died by jumping into pond after escaping from police custody, media reports said.
Tafujal Islam, the accused, was taken for the recreation of the crime at around 4 am.
He escaped from police's custody, jumped into the pond and died in Assam's Nagaon district.
After two hours, the body was found after a search operation with the help of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
One constable was injured when he fled the grip of the constable, police said.
Tafujal was arrested in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl by three people in the district when she was coming back from a coaching class last Thursday.
Two other accused are at large.
