The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has been in power under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for the past two terms, is currently ahead in 45 seats, indicating a possible shift in the state’s political landscape. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 3 constituencies.

Early trends suggest a significant swing in favour of the UDF, which is also ahead in key traditional strongholds such as Ernakulam and Malappuram.

Notably, the alliance is performing well even in Left-dominated regions including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kozhikode and Palakkad.

Kerala has a total of 140 Assembly seats. In the 2021 elections, the electorate broke the long-standing pattern of alternating power between the LDF and UDF every five years by re-electing the Left government.

The state went to the polls on April 9.
