Deepika Padukone pulls out from 'The Intern' remake as actor, to continue as producer: Report
Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone has decided to exit from the Hindi remake of Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway starrer American comedy-drama The Intern in the actor's capacity, a report by Mid-day said.
However, Deepika, who was set to play Anne's role, will go ahead to produce the film, which has had multiple delays over the years.
A source told the portal, "This time, Deepika will step away from acting in the film to serve solely as a producer, overseeing the creative and logistical reboot. A new leading lady is being cast to play the part she was once slated to perform."
"The Intern is the first of five projects she plans to mount in the coming year. She is looking to tell stories that are globally relevant," the source added, stating the actress probably hopes to "explore her career further as a creator".

Veteran Indian actor Rishi Kapoor was originally locked to essay Robert De Niro's role in the remake.
But the casting needed a recalibration after Kapoor passed away.
Acting legend Amitabh Bachchan stepped into Kapoor's place to play the role later.
The film was further delayed due to the pandemic, Deepika's maternity break and several other reasons.
Deepika, who is yet to return to films after embracing motherhood last year, will produce the film through her KA Productions.
The 39-year-old is set to resume her work with Shah Rukh Khan starrer King.
The actress, who has been a part of several blockbusters over the years, will also feature in Atlee's AA22xA6 where she will collaborate with Allu Arjun for the first time on-screen.
