According to reports, Warner Bros. Pictures is in negotiations to acquire the feature film rights to Allen Levi’s breakout novel Theo of Golden.
Gil Netter, Gary Goetzman and Hanks are set to produce the project, while Levi will serve as an executive producer, Deadline reported.
The publication also reported that Jesse Ehrman and Sheila Walcott are overseeing the project for Warner Bros.
Literary affairs executive Ian Dalrymple is credited with bringing the novel to the studio’s attention, according to Deadline.
Levi originally self-published the novel in 2023 with little fanfare or promotional support. However, the book gradually gained traction through word of mouth, helping it attract a growing readership.
Its popularity surged further after Oprah Winfrey featured Levi and the book on her podcast.
The novel was subsequently published worldwide by Simon & Schuster last October. It has since been translated into 43 languages and became a No. 1 bestseller in countries including the Netherlands, Italy and the UK.
