Australia's Gardner back as No. 1 all-rounder in ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings

Gardner’s run-a-ball 102 helped her reach a career-best 469 rating points to reclaim the No. 1 spot that she had first held in October 2023. Her previous best rating points were 466, which she attained last week to close the gap with South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp.

In batting, her previous best was 14th rank, attained in December 2023. Gardner thus continues a fine run that also saw her achieve a career-best second position among bowlers last week, thus placing her at career best positions across all three ODI lists.

Captains Smriti Mandhana of India and Hayley Matthews of the West Indies are among others to gain in the batting rankings after the latest weekly update that considered performances in the last two ODI matches of the Ashes series as well as those in the third match of the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) series between India and Ireland and the first of the IWC series between the West Indies and Bangladesh.

Mandhana’s 80-ball 135 has lifted her one place to second position while Matthews’ match-winning 104 not out has lifted her four slots to a career-best fifth position. Pratika Rawal, who scored 154 and partnered in a record 233-run opening stand with Mandhana, has gained 12 places and reached 53rd position.

Other batters to gain include India’s Jemimah Rodrigues (up two places to 17th) and Richa Ghosh (up six places to 35th), Australia’s Tahlia McGrath (up six places to 23rd), Bangladesh’s Sharmin Akhter (up four places to 41st) and West Indies’ Shemaine Campbelle (up one place to 52nd).

In the bowling rankings, Deepti Sharma is up one place to fourth after grabbing three for 27. Australia seamer Kim Garth is up four places to sixth while leg-spinner Alana King’s hauls of four for 25 and five for 46 have lifted her to a career-best seventh position.

Lauren Bell of England (up two places to 15th), Georgia Wareham of Australia (up two places to 27th), Afy Fletcher of the West Indies (up four places to 28th) and Georgina Dempsey of Ireland (up 15 places to 50th) are among others to progress.

In the T20I Rankings, Phoebe Litchfield of Australia (up three places to 24th) and England’s Sophia Dunkley (up six places to 34th) have moved up the batting rankings while the Australian pair of Annabell Sutherland (up one place to seventh) and Georgia Wareham (up five places to 13th) have advanced in the bowling rankings.

India’s 3-0 victory over Ireland helped them finish second in the IWC standing with 37 points. Australia are the winners of the championship with 39 points while England (32), South Africa (25) and Sri Lanka (22) are the other teams to have ensured direct berths to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

Bangladesh’s loss in the opening ODI against the West Indies in what is the last series of this IWC cycle, leaves them at 19 points and with an uphill task of winning both their remaining matches if they want to overtake New Zealand (21) and book the last direct berth to the World Cup to be hosted by India.
