Bengal Pro T20 League: A week of thrills, spills and rain interruptions
Kolkata/IBNS: The Bengal Pro T20 League Season 2 began with unmatched fanfare at the iconic Eden Gardens here on June 11.
The opening ceremony was a spectacle, headlined by Bollywood diva Sunidhi Chauhan, who set the stage alight with her powerful performance.
Her dynamic act not only celebrated Bengal’s rich sporting culture but also raised the curtain on what promised to be a thrilling season of cricket.

Men’s League: Big Chases, All-Round Brilliance, and Rain Disruptions
The men’s competition started with a bang as Adamas Howrah Warriors chased down Rashmi Medinipur Wizards’ 175/4 in the opening fixture. Shakir Gandhi’s unbeaten 73 powered his team to a six-wicket win with just three balls remaining, setting the tone for the league.
However, mid-week rain played spoilsport.
Matches featuring Sobisco Smashers Malda vs Servotech Siliguri Strikers, Murshidabad Kings vs Adamas Howrah Warriors, and Shrachi Rarh Tigers vs Rashmi Medinipur Wizards were all washed out without a ball being bowled.
When play resumed, Harbour Diamonds made a statement, defending 101/8 in a 9-overs-per-side contest against Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers. With tight bowling and sharp fielding, they secured a 40-run victory, with Kaushik Maity earning Player of the Match for his impactful all-round display.

Women’s League: Talent Shines Despite Weather
The women’s Bengal Pro T20 League, running alongside the men’s competition, has been equally engaging.
The Adamas Howrah Warriors Women’s team started strong, registering convincing wins thanks to standout performers like Ritika Roy with the bat and Riya Das with the ball.
The Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers Women’s side showed grit in close contests, with Tanisha Sen impressing in the middle order.
Unfortunately, like their male counterparts, the women’s teams too have been affected by rain, with multiple fixtures curtailed or abandoned. Yet, the resilience and promise shown by emerging players have been a highlight of this year’s tournament.
What Lies Ahead
As the group stage nears its climax, both leagues are gearing up for a packed finish. The coming matches will determine the semi-finalists in what is expected to be an intense race to the knockout rounds.
Fans are hopeful that the weather will clear, allowing the league to deliver the uninterrupted, high-quality cricket it has promised since Sunidhi’s spectacular opening night. With Eden Gardens buzzing with energy, the Bengal Pro T20 League remains the perfect blend of sport and entertainment.
