Manu Bhaker, Gukesh D to be honoured with Khel Ratna Award
New Delhi/IBNS: Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and world chess champion Gukesh Dommaraju have been named in the list of sports personalities for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2024, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said on Thursday.
Earlier, Manu, a shooter, was not in the list.
Manu and Gukesh will be among the four who will receive the award.
Manu Bhaker, 22, has won two medals at the Olympics, seven medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships and 21 medals at the World Championships and World Cups.
She has won gold medals both at the Commonwealth and Asian Games.
On the other hand, Gukesh, 18, became the youngest world champion beating China Ding Liren in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024.
Indian hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh and para-athletics Praveen Kumar are the two others who will be honoured by president Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on January 17.
