The Olympic medallist began her campaign in emphatic fashion by lifting 85kg in the snatch, setting a new Commonwealth Games record. She then followed it up with a 105kg lift in the clean and jerk, breaking another Games record.

Her combined total of 190kg secured her a dominant gold medal and underlined her supremacy in the event.

The triumph marked Mirabai Chanu's third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal and her fourth Commonwealth Games medal overall, further cementing her place among India's greatest weightlifters.

The Manipuri star finished a remarkable 22kg ahead of silver medallist Ruth Asuquo Nyong of Nigeria, who managed a total lift of 168kg.

Congratulating Chanu on her achievement, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) wrote on X: "With a hat-trick of Commonwealth Games gold medals and an overall fourth CWG medal to her name, Mira continues to add glorious chapters to her remarkable legacy."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the champion weightlifter on X.

"The talented Mirabai Chanu once again showcased her skills at the Commonwealth Games with a stunning performance in the 48kg category, winning Gold. With back-to-back Commonwealth Games Golds and an overall fourth CWG medal to her name, she remains an inspiration for every Indian. Congratulations to her! Chanu's victory gave India its first gold medal of the ongoing Commonwealth Games and added another historic milestone to her illustrious career.
