In a dazzling display of skill and determination, athletes from the northeastern region of India have etched their names into the annals of Olympic glory. On the occasion of International Olympics Day, we take a closer look at the untold tales of triumph that have emanated from this vibrant corner of the nation.

Leading the charge is Mary Kom, the boxing sensation from Manipur, whose indomitable spirit has made her a true icon. Affectionately known as "Magnificent Mary," she clinched a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, inspiring a generation of aspiring athletes across the country.

Dipa Karmakar, hailing from Tripura, blazed a trail in the field of gymnastics by becoming the first Indian female gymnast to compete in the Olympic Games. Her awe-inspiring performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she secured fourth place in the vault event, earned her widespread acclaim and marked a watershed moment for Indian gymnastics.

Assam's own Lovlina Borgohain emerged as a shining star in boxing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. With her unwavering determination, she claimed a bronze medal in the welterweight category, etching her name in history as the first female boxer from Assam to achieve this feat.

Mirabai Chanu, another gem from Manipur, has left an indelible mark in the world of weightlifting. Her exceptional strength and technique propelled her to a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, elevating her to the status of a national hero and shining a spotlight on the tremendous talent present in the Northeast region.

From Assam, the lightning-fast sprinter Hima Das, affectionately referred to as the "Dhing Express," has brought immense pride to the nation. While an Olympic medal has remained elusive, her extraordinary performances have solidified her place among the world's elite athletes, inspiring young talents in the field of athletics.

As we honor International Olympics Day, these remarkable athletes from Northeast India continue to captivate our hearts and inspire future generations. Their unwavering dedication, undying spirit, and extraordinary achievements transcend borders, proving that greatness knows no bounds.
