85-year-old woman allegedly tortured by son in Kalyanpur; admitted to hospital, police launch probe

Kalyanpur witnessed a disturbing incident highlighting the darker side of humanity, where an 85-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to inhuman torture by her own son. The victim, identified as Rasabala Sarkar, has been living in the Koroilong area of Teliamura as a tenant along with her younger son.

According to allegations, her son, a driver by profession, had been physically assaulting her regularly. Locals reported that the elderly woman was often beaten mercilessly and denied basic care. On the night of the incident, she was reportedly subjected to severe torture, after which her condition deteriorated significantly.

Hearing her cries, local ASHA worker Sima Chakraborty rescued her and she immediately informed the incident to local firefighters and she was shifted to Kalyanpur Hospital, where doctors confirmed signs of physical abuse. Medical officials stated that the woman is currently undergoing treatment.

Police have taken note of the incident and initiated an investigation. The accused son is reportedly absconding, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.

The shocking incident has sparked outrage among residents of the area, with many demanding strict action against the accused and better protection mechanisms for senior citizens.
