Accused father arrested for allegedly beating and attempting to sell 3 months old girl
The heart-wrenching incident of child abuse by her father, which has created condemnation across the state and has also shaken the administration, finally, on Thursday accused father was arrested by Budhjungnagar police station from Das Para in Khayerpur assembly constituency of West Tripura district.
The accused father Gautam Ghosh was arrested from his residence on Thursday following a police complaint by a local social organization.
Serious allegations had been raised against the father of the child for physically abusing and attempting to sell his 3-month-old daughter. The incident was also widely reported in various news outlets, prompting swift action from the administration.
According to reports, Gautam Ghosh, son of Pran Gopal Ghosh of Khayerpur Daspara area got married a year back and a baby girl was born to the couple three and a half months back.
However, instead of celebrating the arrival of the newborn, Gautam allegedly became hostile and repeatedly pressured his wife to sell the infant. When his wife refused, he allegedly beat the baby girl, prompting her to flee the house with the child on the first day of the Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year).
Later, the woman and her daughter came under the notice of the youth-focused social organization “Yuba Prerna”. The organization provided them shelter and, on Wednesday, informed Bodhjungnagar Police of the incident. On Thursday morning, with the help of the organization, police arrested Gautam Ghosh from his residence in Khayerpur and brought him to the police station.
Following the media reports, on Thursday afternoon, officials from the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the District Child Protection Unit visited the mother and child at a private shelter in Radhanagar, Agartala and conducted a medical check-up.
“The child and her mother will be moved to an official shelter home on Friday for their safety and care,” said an official from the TCPCR.
The Child Protection Commission announced that the mother and child would be officially moved to a government shelter home on Friday.
Meanwhile, during interrogation, Gautam Ghosh admitted to the allegations . Also, on Thursday afternoon, the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed his concern. There is widespread demand for exemplary punishment for the accused Gautam Ghosh in light of such a horrific incident.
