Advocate General of Tripura, Siddhartha Shankar Dey likely to resign on Monday
The Advocate General of Tripura, Siddhartha Shankar Dey reportedly made up his mind to resign from his position due to alleged rifts with the government’s Law department and senior bureaucrats and will submit his resignation before a judge of the High Court of Tripura on Monday.
Sources said that Advocate General Dey was appointed on December 29, 2020, after the previous Advocate General Arun Kanti Bhowmik passed away from COVID-19 related complications.
Dey, originally hails from North Tripura and was practicing at the Guwahati High Court before his elevation as Advocate General of Tripura.
Sources added that Dey on Friday declined to comment, but he did not deny the reports of his potential resignation.
Sources also said that Mr. Dey has recently developed a split with the Law department and senior bureaucrats over legal matters related to law and order which are under the scrutiny of the courts.
While, sources confirmed that the state government has already selected a next Advocate General, who is said to be a senior lawyer at the High Court of Tripura and after resignation of incumbent advocate general, the official announcement is expected to be made next week.
