After 13-years of trial, accused TSR jawan gets life imprisonment for killing 2 colleagues, injured 4 others
After long 13-years of trial of gruesome incident, in which a berserk TSR jawan opened fire and killed two of colleagues and injured four other jawans at Tankarai TSR camp under Longtharai Valley subdivision of Dhalai district on January 28, 2013 last, on Monday the district court of Ambassa sentenced the accused jawan for rigorous life imprisonment.
Official sources said that the District and Session judge of Ambassa under Dhalai district on Monday convicted accused TSR jawans Bijoy Debbarma (47) of Khasiapunji village of Salema under the same district and sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000. In default of payment of the fine, the convict shall suffer further rigorous imprisonment of six more months under section of 302 of IPC.
The court also sentenced him to ten years of jail under section 307 of IPC, seven year of rigorous imprisonment with fine under section 201 of IPC and three years of imprisonment for commission of offence punishable under section 27(1) of Arms Act and all these sentences will run simultaneously.
It may be recalled here that on the ill-fated day of January 28, 2013, accused TSR rifleman Bijoy Debbarma opened indiscriminate fire with his 7.62 mm service SLF at Tankarai TSR camp and injured six TSR personnel with bullet injuries and among them, two jawans succumbed to their grievous injuries on the spot.
After thorough investigation, police Sub-Inspector (SI) Udhyam Debbarma of Chawmanu police station had submitted the charge-sheet against accused TSR jawans on February 10th, 2017 and after long-trial, the court found accused jawans guilty and sentenced him for life imprisonment on Monday.
