After six years of trial, rape accused gets life term in Sepahijala district
After six years of long trial, the District and Session of court of Sepahijala district on Tuesday in a significant judgement sentenced a rapist life imprisonment.
Giving detail of the case , public prosecutor (PP) Goutam Giri said that accused Nuru Nabi was convicted of raping a woman in the absence of her husband under Section 457 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000, with an additional 15 days of imprisonment in case of default and under section 376 of the IPC, he has been sentenced to life imprisonment with rigorous punishment along with a fine of Rs 5,000, and in case of default, an additional two months of imprisonment.
The verdict was pronounced by Judge Shankari Das of the Sepahijala District and Sessions Court.
PP Goutam Giri said that the incident was committed under Kalamchowra police station of Sonamura subdivision on May 19, 2019 last and based on the survivor’s complaint, a case was registered at Kalamchowra police station on May 20, 2019.
The case was registered by the then OC Rajib Saha, and the Investigating Officer (IO) was Durga Kumar Rangkhal, said Giri and added that after hearing the witnesses of 18 persons, theJudge convicted the accused on Monday and delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
