AoJ’s National Press Day seminar draws strong participation from Gen-Z students
The Assembly of Journalists (AoJ) on Sunday organized a seminar with interactive session titled “Is Traditional Media Losing Popularity Among Gen Z?” at Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, marking the occasion of National Press Day. The seminar focused on the evolving media ecosystem and the changing news consumption habits of the younger generation.
Several eminent speakers shared insights on the challenges and opportunities faced by traditional media amid the rapid rise of digital platforms. Issues such as information credibility, fact-checking, journalistic ethics, and the growing appeal of digital content dominated the deliberations.
A large number of students from Tripura University and the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) participated in the programme, making the discussions more engaging. Their perspectives on journalism, personal experiences, and content consumption habits added depth to the session. Editors, working journalists, and photojournalists from various media houses in the state were also present.
In a statement, the Assembly of Journalists said the objective of the event was to make journalism students aware of the real media ecosystem, help them understand evolving media trends, and encourage them to think critically about the future of both traditional and digital platforms.
Delivering the keynote addresses were Sanit Debroy, General Secretary of AoJ and veteran editor; Professor Ashesh Gupta of Tripura University; Dr. Sunil Kalai, head of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, Tripura University; Dr. Lokesh Chakma, head of the Journalism Department, Techno India University; and educationist Musfata Kamal.
The speakers highlighted that despite Gen Z’s preference for social media and digital platforms, traditional media remains essential for credible and responsible journalism.
