Assam Rifles rescues civilians, take initiatives for early return of peace, normalcy in Jiribam, Manipur

Imphal:Again, tensions escalated in Jiribam of Manipur, when a body of a 59-year-old individual was found on June 6th and miscreants disturbed peace and harmony in the area by burning some houses.

Assam Rifles undertook significant actions to prevent further deterioration of the security situation, ensured safety of the residents and prevented vandalization.  Assam Rifles and Manipur Police carried out extensive coordination and thwarted an attempt by miscreants to loot the weapons from Jiribam Police Station.

Assam Rifles also provided security to isolated inhabited pockets in Phaitol and Raniveng thereby preventing likely attacks. Their actions resulted in the successful rescue of 86 locals, belonging to both communities from Dibong Khunao, Raniveng, and Monbung.

In addition to these efforts, Assam Rifles deployed columns to various locations. On June 7th, miscreants commenced firing at around 5:30 pm in the Raniveng area of Jiribam. Assam Rifles swiftly mobilised to the location and carried out actions that prevented any untoward incident.

During the operation, approximately 66 locals from the Kuki community were rescued and safely evacuated. Earlier in the day, 237 Meitei locals from Lamdaikhunao and Monbung villages were also safely evacuated to Internally Displaced Personnel (IDP)camp.

Assam Rifles in coordination with civil administration, State Police, CRPF and other security forces also conducted a security meeting in Jiribam to address the concerns of the local community and to reinforce the measures being taken to maintain peace and order in the region. The meeting was a collaborative effort, involving various stakeholders and community leaders, aimed at fostering trust and cooperation between the security forces and the residents.

The Assam Rifles remain committed to the safety and security of the people of Manipur and will continue to take proactive steps to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law. The swift actions of Assam Rifles were instrumental in mitigating further damage and loss of life despite the challenging conditions and roadblocks set up by miscreants. Assam Rifles remains steadfast in its mission to maintain peace and stability in Manipur.
