Assam Rifles, in a well-coordinated joint operation with the Cachar district police of Assam state, achieved a major success against drug trafficking in the region on Monday.
Acting on specific and reliable intelligence, the joint team launched an operation in the general area near Nandankanan Bridge close to Jirighat Market, approximately eight kilometres west of Jaliura. During the operation, the security forces recovered 10 boxes containing 116.2 grams of Heroin, valued at around Rs 60 lakh.
One drug peddler was apprehended at the spot. In addition to the contraband, the team also seized a mobile phone, cash amounting to Rs 5,500, and an auto-rickshaw reportedly used for transporting the drugs.
