Demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian service, the Assembly of Journalists (AoJ) organized a voluntary blood donation camp and health check-up camp for senior citizens at Maharani Tulsibati Higher Secondary Girls' School in Agartala on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, office-bearers of the Assembly of Journalists, and several other dignitaries including journalists and photo-journalists from every district of the state.
Members of the organisation, along with people from different walks of life, participated enthusiastically in the blood donation camp. A total of 56 volunteers donated blood during the event.
As part of its humanitarian initiative, the Assembly of Journalists also donated five wheelchairs to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital. The wheelchairs were formally handed over to the hospital authorities by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister lauded the initiative of the Assembly of Journalists, describing blood donation as a noble social and humanitarian act. He said that a single unit of donated blood can play a vital role in saving the life of a critically ill patient and appealed to people from all sections of society to come forward voluntarily to donate blood.
Dr Saha also expressed his gratitude to members of the media fraternity and all the voluntary blood donors who participated in the camp. He encouraged organizations and individuals to continue undertaking such social and humanitarian initiatives for the welfare of the people.
Representatives of the Assembly of Journalists said that, besides disseminating news, the organisation considers serving society to be one of its core responsibilities. With that objective, it organized the blood donation camp and donated wheelchairs to support patients at GBP Hospital.
