BGB prevents single-line fencing in Muhurighat, tension

In a dramatic development over the unauthorized and illegal objections by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for erection of single line barbed wire fencing at the bordering areas of Muhurighat land custom station in Belonia town of South Tripura district has been stopped.

The jawans of BGB threatened the Indian labourers working to stop the construction of single line barbed wire fencing, which has escalated tension among two forces. They also issued a warning that if the construction work is not stopped, then they will start firing, which is totally illegal as the ongoing construction work is going inside 150 yards of Indian territory.

Sources said that BGB had raised the objection on Thursday, but Indian authorities have continued their construction works as there is no issue for objection. But, again on Friday, BGB jawans arrived near the construction site adjacent to Muhurighat land custom station and raised their illegal objection.

Then , authorities of BSF along with their counterpart in Bangladesh organized a flag meeting at the zero point of Muhurighat. The hours-long meeting yielded zero output and both BSF and BGB have decided to stop the construction works for next two days till the final decisions from top officials of both nations.

During the flag meeting, company commandant of BSF’s 43rd battalion and company commandant of BGB’s Majumderhat camp participated in the flag meeting.

Sources added that during the flag meeting, BSF officials had raised their strong objections over the illegal activities of BGB as the single line barbed wire fencing work is going on inside 150 yards of Indian territory.

As per the bilateral decision of both nations, single line fencing would be erected in bordering areas of Muhurighat and construction agencies have already completed three-fourth part of the fencing and there are no issues for objection.

Earlier, BGB had also stopped the construction work of a toilet near the BSF checking point of Muhurighat in Indian territory and top authorities of BSF have also lodged their complaint, but till date no decision has been taken.
