Biplab Goswami triumphs again! Wins Pinkvilla Screen & Style Icons Awards 2025 for 'Laapataa Ladies'

Celebrated screenwriter and director Biplab Goswami, hailing from Tripura, has added yet another milestone to his collection by winning the Best Story Award for 'Laapataa Ladies' at the Pinkvilla Screen & Style Icons Awards 2025.

The prestigious event, held in Mumbai on March 27th, 2025, recognized outstanding achievements in Indian cinema and entertainment. The star-studded evening saw several luminaries being honoured along with Biplab Goswami, with notable winners including Akshay Kumar, Rajkummar Rao, Tiger Shroff, Shahid Kapoor, Susmita Sen, Kajol, Ananya Panday, Anupam Kher, Sonu Nigam, Himesh Reshammiya, etc.

Pinkvilla, a leading entertainment and lifestyle digital platform since 2007, has been instrumental in celebrating and highlighting talent across the Indian media landscape. The Screen & Style Icons Awards, now in its fourth edition, has grown into a significant platform for acknowledging creative excellence in the entertainment industry.

This latest accolade follows 'Laapataa Ladies' achieving extraordinary global recognition. The film was India’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards (Oscars), marking a historic moment for Indian cinema. Its impact extended beyond commercial success, as it was also screened at the Supreme Court of India for awareness, reflecting its powerful social message.

Internationally, Laapataa Ladies received a theatrical release in Japan, where it enjoyed a successful multi-month run, culminating in a prestigious Japanese Film Academy Awards nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. The film was also a Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) selection, receiving a standing ovation and further solidifying its global appeal. Additionally, it was honoured with Best Film (Critics’ Choice) at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

For Biplab Goswami, who has journeyed from Tripura to Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute and then to the heart of Indian cinema, this succession of honours, including the IIFA Award for Best Story - Original earlier in March 2025, is not just a personal triumph but a moment of pride for Tripura. His achievements continue to bring recognition to the region, further cementing his reputation as a masterful storyteller and one of the most influential voices in contemporary Indian cinema.
