BSF fire on an Indian villager while attempting to cross international border at Putia

In a firing incident, one Indian villager sustained bullet injuries after two persons including a woman engaged scuffle with an on-duty BSF jawan, when they tried to sneak into Indian territory by crossing barbed wire fencing at Putia village under Sepahijala district on Tuesday evening.

Injured person was admitted to GB Hospital, while his female companion managed to escape from the spot towards Bangladesh territory.

BSF of Tripura Frontier through a press statement said that on Tuesday evening at approximately 6.10 PM, a BSF troops  deployed in the area of Border Outpost (BOP) Putia under Sepahijala district observed two suspects (one male and one female) approaching the border fence from the Bangladesh side, attempting to breach it.

Despite multiple warnings from the BSF sentry, the individuals ignored the instructions and engaged in a scuffle with the sentry, attempting to snatch his Pump action Gun (PAG). In self-defense and following Standard Operating Procedure, the sentry fired one round, resulting in a minor injury to the male individual, while the female managed to escape into a nearby village.

Upon further investigation, the injured individual was identified as Akhtar Jamal Roni, a resident of Village Putia of Boxanagar block under Sepahijala district. He admitted to having entered India from Bangladesh without any legal documents, said BSF.

The injured person was immediately provided with medical aid and necessary assistance by BSF personnel. The matter is currently under investigation.

BSF added that they remain fully committed to ensuring the security and integrity of the international border, taking all necessary measures to prevent unauthorized crossings.
