Child labour rescue campaign in Khowai: Two rescued, legal action against shop owners

In order to abolish ‘child labour’ and rehabilitate them and as part of PAN India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign against child labour, the Khowai subdivisional administration has launched a special campaign on Monday to rescue child labourers.

During the campaign, the sub divisional administration raided different garages, restaurants and hotels of the town and they have also managed to rescue two child labourers aged about 11 and 13 years.

Later, speaking with media persons, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Khowai district, Sumit Kumar Pandey and SDM Ms Charu said that they have managed to rescue two child labourers aged about 11 and 13 years from two different shops of Khowai market and administration has initiated legal action against accused shop owners.

Both rescued child labourers were handed over to the ‘Khowai Child Welfare Committee’ for their proper nourishment. The authorities have also instructed concerned officials to provide different government facilities to the families of these children.

While, District Magistrate (DM) of Khowai, Chandni Chandan said that district administration has already taken legal action against two shop owners, who were responsible for violating rules of child labour.

It may be recalled here that the PAN India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign is a campaign to rescue and rehabilitate child laborers. The campaign involved officials from various departments, including labor, women and child welfare, police, and social welfare. The campaign resulted in the rescue of child laborers who were working in shops and commercial establishments. The children were then presented to the child welfare committee and admitted to a children's home for rehabilitation.
