Class-12 student dies by suicide after alleged betrayal by partner
A Class-12 student of Auxilium Girls’ School died by suicide on Wednesday morning at her rented accommodation in the Jagatpur area of Agartala, reportedly after facing betrayal in a relationship.
Police identified the deceased as Sagarika Debbarma, a resident of Bishramganj in Sepahijala district. She had been staying in a rented house under NCC Police Station for the past six months to continue her studies.
According to police sources, on Wednesday morning, a youth identified as Kanchan Debbarma from Bishramganj—believed to have been in a relationship with the girl—called the house owner and informed him that Sagarika’s mobile phone had been switched off for long. When the house owner checked on her, he noticed the kitchen door locked from inside and immediately alerted the police.
Police reached the spot and, upon opening the door, found Sagarika hanging from the ceiling inside the room.
Speaking to the media, some of the girl’s friends said she was in a relationship with Kanchan Debbarma, and after their recent breakup she had been depressed and had confided her distress to them. They stated that the emotional turmoil may have led to her taking the extreme step.
Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause behind the suicide.
