Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday called for coordinated efforts by all government departments to ensure the smooth and successful organization of this year's Durga Puja and ‘Mayer Gaman’ , great and colourful immersion carnival festival celebrations in Agartala.
Chairing a preparatory meeting for the Sharad Samman awards and Mayer Gaman programme at Muktadhara auditorium in Agartala on Monday evening, the Chief Minister said the main Mayer Gaman event will be held on October 23, with the immersion venue remaining the same as last year, in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ Higher Secondary School.
The meeting was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, senior administrative officials, representatives of various departments, and members of Durga Puja committees and clubs.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to complete road repairs, tree trimming, and the removal of hazardous electric wires well before the festival. He also stressed the need to ensure smooth ambulance movement, strengthen security arrangements, and enhance the promotion of the Mayer Gaman festival to attract more visitors, including international guests. He further suggested exploring special tourism packages for visitors during the Durga Puja celebrations.
Mayor Dipak Majumder said the government's objective is to organize the festival successfully through collective cooperation while maintaining law and order. He noted that a single-window system has been introduced for Puja permissions and that the registration fee has been waived for clubs. Last year, Agartala hosted 697 Durga Puja celebrations.
Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Secretary Kiran Gitte said Mayer Gaman has become an important cultural event in Tripura since its introduction in 2022 and called for collective efforts to make it an even bigger attraction for tourists. Revenue Secretary Milind Ramteke urged organizers to ensure safe pandals, adequate lighting, proper deployment of volunteers, and effective waste management during the festival. IGP (Law and Order) Ipper Manchak also appealed to organizers to prevent forced donations and ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations.
Other officials present in the meeting has also stressed the importance of close coordination to ensure that the festival is celebrated in a peaceful, orderly, and festive atmosphere while showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditional grandeur of Tripura’s Durga Puja celebrations.
