CM Dr Saha congratulates Tipra Motha for massive victory in ADC elections
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday congratulated the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) for its resounding victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, where the party secured 24 out of 28 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the remaining four seats, while both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Indian National Congress (Congress) failed to win any seat for the second consecutive time.
Chief Minister Dr Saha through a social media message said that “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the Karyakartas of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the ADC elections for their courage, hard work, and dedication. Congratulations to all the winners, and warm wishes to the Tipra Motha Party on their success.
While we accept the people’s mandate with humility, we see this as an opportunity to learn and come back stronger. I sincerely thank all our karyakartas for their tireless efforts, taking the message of the lotus to every household is a proud achievement.
Our commitment to development, unity, and the people remains unwavering. We will continue to move forward with greater strength and determination.”
Despite being allies in the state government, the BJP and TMP—led by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma—contested the council elections separately. The TTAADC administers nearly 70 per cent of Tripura’s geographical area and serves a population of around 15 lakh people.
Accepting the verdict, Dr Saha said the BJP respects the people’s mandate with humility and views the outcome as an opportunity to regroup and return stronger. He reiterated the party’s commitment to development, unity, and public service.
Reacting to the results, Leader of Opposition (LOP) Jitendra Choudhury said that while a pro-TMP wave was expected, the scale of the victory was surprising. He also alleged that both Dr Saha and Debbarma made communally charged remarks during the campaign.
Meanwhile, senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman attributed the TMP’s landslide victory partly to internal factionalism within the BJP.
