Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Wednesday inaugurated the Tripura Government Homeopathic Medical College and Netaji Subhash Homeopathic Hospital at Renters Colony in Agartala, saying the state government has significantly expanded affordable medical education opportunities and is committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure.

Addressing the inaugural programme, the Chief Minister said the government has addressed the long-standing concerns of students and their guardians by creating more opportunities for medical education within the state at a lower cost. He noted that students now have access to MBBS, Dental, Nursing and BHMS courses in Tripura, and said Ayurvedic medical education would also begin soon with the opening of an Ayurvedic Hospital.

Recalling the situation in earlier years, Dr Saha said aspiring medical students had to leave the state and incur substantial expenses to pursue higher education. With the establishment of multiple medical institutions, students can now receive quality medical education within Tripura, he said, adding that the government believes in delivering on its promises through action.

The Chief Minister further announced that additional medical colleges would be established under private initiatives. He said the Shija Group is set to invest around Rs. 700 crore to establish an advanced medical college and hospital in the state. He also revealed that a new medical college would be set up in Dhalai district, stating that these initiatives would not only improve healthcare services but also create employment and economic opportunities for local residents.

Emphasizing the importance of peace and stability for development, Dr Saha said the state's favourable law-and-order situation has encouraged private investors to commit investments worth Rs. 1.32 lakh crore. He congratulated the first batch of students and faculty members of the Homeopathic Medical College, expressing confidence that they would play a significant role in advancing homeopathic education and healthcare in the state. He also highlighted the growing use of modern technology in homeopathy and encouraged students to embrace challenges to gain experience and excel in the medical profession.

Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Manika Das Datta attended the programme as the special guest, while Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte, the guest of honour, said Tripura's healthcare infrastructure has witnessed remarkable progress in recent years. Among those present were AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed A., Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of Tripura Medical Education Dr. H.P.
