Combined security forces arrested 7 active cadres of UKLF with ammunition, explosive powder

Imphal (Manipur): Combined Security forces has arrested seven active cadres of Kuki Militant group United Kuki Liberation Front including 2 Myanmar nationals with ammunition, explosive materials during combing operations at Indo Myanmar border town Moreh.

According to police, on Saturday the combined security forces conducted combing operations at Sheijang, Chabangphai, Zion Veng and Yangoupokpi village to arrest the culprits involved in the killing of an SDPO. In the operation, the combined security forces first detained 20 suspected persons, out of which 7 turned out to be active cadres of UKLF (which is under Suspension of Operation with India and Manipur governments). 

The other two Myanmar nationals arrested are identified as Negimao, son of Mangthang and Ma Mong Sku, son of late Mong Thong from Myanmar’s Namphalong area.

The team also seized 100 cartridges, 1 Chinese hand grenade, 2 KG of explosive powder, 100 grams of suspected Sulphur powder, 10 grams of gunpowder, one camouflage jacket and a cap, four mobile phones, four identity and Aadhar cards and a ammunition belt.

The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Moreh Police Station and a case has been registered to take up legal actions against them.

Manipur Police DIG Range 2 Jogeschandra Haobijam is also in Moreh and has been taking stock of the security situation in the border town. The DIG Range 2 is also coordinating in the combing operations.

On the other hand, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles South Mantripukhri, Rajan Sherawat on Saturday morning flew to Moreh on a chopper from Assam Rifles Camp located at Mantripukhri in Imphal and took stock of the security situation in Moreh.

According to sources, the held a closed door meeting at the Assam Rifles Inspection Bungalow with DC, SP Tengnoupal and leaders of Kuki Women Union and other Kuki leaders in the afternoon at Moreh.

It was reported that the Inspector General Rajan Sherawat clarified to the Kuki Women Union Tengnoupal and other Kuki leaders that neither properties were looted and no women were harassed during joint combing operations conducted in Moreh.
