Congress to gherao DGP office demanding impartial role by police
The opposition Congress will gherao the office of the Director General of Police's (DGP) on September 23 demanding that the police be impartial.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Friday afternoon AICC secretary and in charge of Tripura, Christopher Tilak along with Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha and MLAs Sudip Roy Barman, Gopal Chandra Roy, former PCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas and other leaders announced the gheraoing the DGP's office.
PCC president Ashish Kumar Saha said a crisis-like situation is prevailing across Tripura due to the devastating floods and the state government totally failed to show sensitivity towards the people in the hours of critical times. The police have adopted a one eye policy. They don’t take action even after filing FIR or complaints in certain cases.
He said that Congress has submitted a deputation to the police asking them to be impartial, but the police are not functioning in accordance with the law. He alleged that Congress leaders and workers are being implicated in false cases and harassed by the police. That’s why Congress have decided to gherao the DGP's office on September 23, said Saha.
Christopher Tilak has also expressed concern over violence and lack of job opportunities in the state. Atrocities on women are also going up and the government has failed to deliver on job creation, Information Technology is largely ignored by the state, said Tilak. The AICC secretary also criticized the state government for allegedly befooling the people after the devastating floods. He also said party leader Rahul Gandhi will visit the state, but did not mentioned any probable date.
