CPI (M) seeks CEO’s intervention for free and fair by-polls

Opposition CPI(M) in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) , Tripura urges the poll authorities to take concrete measures to conduct the by-elections in free, fair and peaceful manner and to instruct the police to act upon without any leniency towards the evil attempts.

CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury in a letter to the CEO, Tripura, Puneet Agarwal said that their apprehension about the unfair and violent means that the BJP may resort to reduce the election to be a complete mockery has seems to be true from the eventualities going on since the previous night.

“Yesterday, between 10.30 p.m. and 2.00 a.m. in the night, a group of about 15 BJP workers riding in two Bolero cars defacing the numbers of vehicles with cloth or paints terrorized the voters with fire arms going house to house at Rangamura, Barkhola, Barmura, Bashpukur and Nirbhoypur areas (Booth No. 23/26, 23/27, 23/29, 23/30, 23/32, 23/34) under Dhanpur assembly constituency. They threatened the voters and the intending polling agents of the opposition candidates, not to come out of their house on 5th September and on defying their dictate, they would face dire consequences,” alleged Chaudhury in his letter.

He alleged that the police in every check post did not prevent them from their movement with bad intention and miscreants visited the many  houses and threatened them not to go to vote on 5th September.

Chaudhury also said that last night CPI(M) candidate Koushik Chanda, of Dhanpur AC tried to contact RO, Dhanpur but he did not respond. Then he sent a Whatsapp message to the RO. Then the RO forwarded this message to OC, Jatrapur PS. Kaushik Chanda also tried to contact OC, Jatrapur PS but he did not respond.

Yesterday, after 9.00 p.m. at night, other two vehicles covering number plates went to Rajnagar, Belonia and came back to Dhanpur passing over at least 4 Naka points. The police manning the Naka points did not obstruct them on their movement and outsiders are still staying in many houses of Baramura (Booth No. 26 and 27 of 23-Dhanpur constituency, said the Chaudhury and added that the police was informed about the staying of these outsiders, but they still did not take any step to drive them out of the constituency.

Chaudhury  requested the CEO  to  instruct the police to act upon without any leniency towards the evil attempts  and ensure by-polls to be free and fair.
