CPI marks 100th anniversary with grand celebrations in Tripura

The Communist Party of India (CPI) marked a historic milestone on Thursday, celebrating its centenary year, after completing 99 years of its founding. Established on December 26, 1925, at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the CPI is India’s first communist party. On this momentous day, the CPI in Tripura organized a series of events to commemorate the party's rich legacy and contributions to the nation.

Across the state, CPI workers and leaders came together to observe the occasion with great respect and fervour. The celebrations commenced at noon with the symbolic hoisting of the blood-red flag at the CPI Tripura State Office Junu Das Bhavan here. The State Secretary of the CPI Dr. Judhishthir Das led the ceremony which was followed by the raising of slogans marking the party’s century-long journey.

The atmosphere turned serious as party leaders including Dr. Das, former State Secretary Ranjit Majumder, and senior leaders such as Ramendra Datta Gupta, Harihar Saha, and Amulya Sharma, paid tribute to martyrs at the memorial. Other prominent leaders like Manoranjan Tripura, Rajendra Reang, Dhanmoni Sinha, Rasbihari Ghosh, Nilmani Deb, and youth leader Ajit Das, along with numerous party workers, also participated in the tribute ceremony.

A key highlight of the day was the special organizational meeting held in the state party office presided over by Nilmani Deb, a member of the CPI State Committee. The meeting began with a minute's silence to mourn the passing of CPI leaders including Manoranjan Basak, Manas Debbarman, Biswanath Sutradhar, and other prominent figures like Sitaram Yechury and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. The solemn tribute was paid in honour of those who dedicated their lives to the party's cause.

The meeting also recognized the contributions of senior CPI leaders Ramendra Dutta Gupta, Athui Mog, Harihar Saha, and Amulya Sharma, who were felicitated for their longstanding dedication to the party. The session continued with detailed discussions on the party’s history, achievements, and its role in shaping India’s politics. Dr. Judhishthir Das, along with other key speakers shared insights into the CPI's significant impact over the past century.

The centenary celebrations will span an entire year, with various programs planned at district and Sub-divisional levels across Tripura. In addition to the events in the capital, similar observances took place in regions like Shantirbazar, Kailashahar, Belonia, Kamalpur, Dharmanagar, and Jirania, where party workers hoisted the blood-red flag and paid tribute to fallen comrades.
