Delivery boy death case, bail petitions of 5 accused again rejected, court allows custodial trail

In a major development, the District and Session court of North Tripura district on Monday has finally rejected the bail plea of the five accused in the mysterious death case of Dharmanagar’s online delivery boy, Prasenjit Sarkar and ordered for custodial trial of the sensational case.

With this ruling, the accused will no longer be able to seek bail in connection with this case. The court has declared that they must continue to fight the case from judicial custody.

After the court order on Monday, High Court advocate Debdas Baksi speaking with media persons at Dharmanagar said that the development termed it a significant legal victory. He stated that this is not only his victory, but also a victory for the people of Dharmanagar.

Earlier on February 25 last, the District court produced the case before the High Court of Tripura from a lower court following prolonged legal proceedings.

According to High Court advocate Debdas Baksi, no bail was granted to the accused during the hearing of the case on Monday and the District and Session Judge of North Tripura district has formally allowed the prosecution for custodial trial of all five accused persons.

He said that all accused are still in custody for the last 82 days after their arrest and the District court will frame the charges of accused persons on March 11 next.

Advocate Baksi added that he has been handling the case for the past 82 days. He alleged that while in judicial custody, the accused attempted to threaten witnesses in the case through various means. This matter has also been brought to the court’s attention.

He further expressed hope that the next phase of the trial process would commence at the earliest. “We remain optimistic that the judicial proceedings will begin soon. We will make every possible legal effort to ensure justice,” he said.

Since the beginning, the death of Prasenjit Sarkar has triggered strong reactions across the state. The victim’s family members and local residents have been demanding exemplary punishment for the culprits.

Deceased, Prasenjit Sarkar (23), a resident of Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, was working as a delivery boy with a private courier company.

According to allegations made by Sarkar’s family, three women and two men physically assaulted him at his office on December 14, 2025 following a dispute related to the delivery of a parcel. The accused allegedly videographed the assault and later circulated the video on social media, subjecting Sarkar to severe public humiliation and mental trauma.

Family members and local residents alleged that the public assault and circulation of the video deeply affected Sarkar’s self-respect and mental well-being.

Unable to cope with the humiliation, the young man, the only earning member of his family, allegedly died by suicide on the same day (December 14), leaving behind his grieving mother and poor family.

The incident has triggered widespread protests across Tripura, with various political parties and organizations demanding justice for Sarkar and stringent punishment for those responsible.
