Doctors working tirelessly to help the flood affected people: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday lauded the efforts of doctors for working tirelessly to treat flood-affected victims.

Dr Saha said this while inaugurating an open gym and park, as well as celebrating the 19th Foundation Day of Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital at Vivekananda auditorium.

On this occasion, Dr Saha set an example by directing the hospital authorities not to organize any cultural programs, out of respect for the 26 people who lost their lives in the devastating floods in the state.

"Many successful surgeries have taken place at Tripura Medical College. Students and doctors must prioritize the well-being of the people over monetary gain. Only by doing so can we achieve 'Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura,'" he said.

During the event, Dr Saha also remembered the supreme sacrifice of Chiranjit Dey, while saving others during the floods.

"In Tripura, flood-related fatalities have occurred due to landslides and house collapses. We are addressing these issues. I have spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and they are providing all possible assistance. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav also reached out to offer help," he said.

Dr Saha highlighted that doctors of the state are currently busy running medical camps in relief shelters, as people are likely to face skin diseases, diarrhea, and other health issues.

“Our doctors are working tirelessly to assist the flood victims. We are providing all necessary facilities, including super specialties, yet people are still leaving the state, often selling their properties. Students pursuing MBBS need to build themselves into top-tier professionals so that patients will choose to stay here for treatment. We must also focus on improving infrastructure and ensuring quality education. Our doctors in medical colleges are working diligently,” Dr Saha said.

Dr. Saha who is health minister further stated, “Before attending the Foundation Day event, I instructed that no songs or cultural programs should be held, as we have lost 24 lives, with two more still missing.”

During the program, Dr Saha presented various awards to students.
