The Tripura government is continuing its efforts to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the state by providing platforms for local entrepreneurs to connect with national-level policymakers and institutions.

On February 11, Sanjiv Singh, , Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), government of India, visited the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT office in Agartala, where he interacted with emerging startup founders from across the state. The interaction witnessed extensive discussions on innovation, entrepreneurship, and institutional support mechanisms to promote startups in Tripura.

During the programme, Kiran Gitte,  Secretary of Information Technology of Tripura government, highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the Directorate of Information Technology to nurture the State’s startup ecosystem. Jeya Ragul Geshan B,  Director, Information Technology, Government of Tripura, made a detailed presentation on Startup Tripura, outlining its journey, milestones, and future roadmap under the Tripura Startup Policy 2025. The session was also attended by the Additional Director, Joint Director, and other senior officials of DIT.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjiv Singh informed that DPIIT would extend extensive support for organizing a North East Start-Up Conclave in Agartala. He further stated that the Government of India has earmarked substantial seed funding for startups in the North Eastern region and would deploy additional dedicated manpower to provide focused support to startups in Tripura.

Around ten Tripura-based startups showcased their products and innovations through exhibition stalls arranged by DIT, offering them an opportunity to engage directly with senior policymakers and industry representatives.

On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the Directorate of Information Technology and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) as well as the National Law University (NLU), Tripura, for on boarding under the New Generation Innovation Network (NGIN) initiative. Prof. Dr. H.K. Pratihari, Campus Director, NFSU Tripura Campus, and Prof. Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Tripura, were present during the MoU signing. The collaboration aims to promote innovation-led research, entrepreneurship, and incubation support within higher educational institutions in the state.

It may be recalled that on November 10, 2025, S. Such engagements reflect the continued commitment of both the Central and State Governments towards fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Tripura.

The sector-agnostic Tripura Startup Policy, launched by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha in the presence of IT, Finance, Planning and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, aims to create an inclusive and innovation-driven startup ecosystem in the State. Implemented by the Directorate of Information Technology, the policy ensures transparency and ease of access for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Under the policy, more than 100 startups have been approved, of which 48 have been recognized, with several receiving support through proof-of-concept assistance and fiscal incentives. A ₹50-crore Startup Venture Fund has been envisaged, with ₹15 crore contributed by the State Government to support scalable business models.

The state government is also actively implementing the New Generation Innovation Network (NGIN) Scheme by integrating higher educational institutions into the startup ecosystem. Ten institutions, including Tripura University, NIT Agartala, ICFAI University, and the College of Agriculture, have already been on boarded to encourage student-led innovation. The signing of MoUs with NFSU and NLU Tripura marks a significant step towards expanding the innovation network and fostering knowledge-based entrepreneurship in the State.
