"Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" – A Green cycling rally in streets of Agartala
As the world grapples with environmental degradation and climate concerns, communities across the globe are stepping up with grassroots initiatives to raise awareness. Agartala recently witnessed one such inspiring event — a unique cycling rally with a powerful message: “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in the Name of Mother).
The event was organized by the 6-Agartala Minority Morcha, with active collaboration from the local cycling community, Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, a cycling community. The aim was clear — to spread awareness about tree plantation, distribute saplings to the public, and promote cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transport.
Despite the day starting with heavy downpours, the rally kicked off from Indranagar Kalibari Road with undeterred enthusiasm. Over 30 cyclists from Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, especially from Ward No. 6, braved the rain to participate in this meaningful initiative. Their dedication and energy stood as a testament to the growing civic consciousness in the city.
A highlight of the event was the active participation of Smt. Papiya Dutta, senior BJP leader. In a rare and commendable gesture, she rode a bicycle barefoot throughout the rain-soaked rally — not as a chief guest, but as a fellow participant committed to the cause. Her gesture was not only symbolic but also deeply impactful, resonating with both fellow riders and onlookers.
Participants were each provided with specially designed T-shirts carrying the message "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam", underscoring the emotional and ecological importance of tree plantation. At the conclusion of the rally, Smt. Dutta felicitated each cyclist with a traditional uttariya (ceremonial scarf), acknowledging their efforts with warmth and respect.
The rally also saw the active presence of members of the Mahila Morcha and other dignitaries, whose participation added strength and inclusivity to the cause. The journey culminated near Blood Sun Club in Abhoynagar, leaving behind a lasting message of unity, sustainability, and community action.
