In a shocking daylight robbery incident near the Mohanpur SDPO office at Lembucherra under West Tripura district on Tuesday , an elderly woman was allegedly robbed of a high-value gold chain and a mobile phone by a gang of snatchers.
Sources said that the incident took place at the residence of Ruma Chakraborty Biswas, located near the Lembucherra Veterinary Hospital and adjacent of Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) office. Taking advantage of the woman being alone at home, the miscreants reportedly entered the house and carried out the robbery by physically overpowering her. The elderly woman narrowly escaped with her life.
Speaking to the media, the victim stated that a young woman identified as Dipa Das first entered the house on the pretext of using the toilet. Shortly after the woman left, a heavily built man entered the house and allegedly snatched the gold chain from her neck along with her mobile phone.
According to the victim, the crime was carried out by an organized gang, and she demanded the immediate arrest of those involved.
The incident has created panic among local residents, especially as both the office of SDPO (Mohanpur) Ashish Dasgupta and the Lembucherra police outpost are located nearby. The broad daylight robbery has raised serious questions regarding the effectiveness of police security arrangements in the area.
