A Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Belonia of South Tripura on Thursday sentenced five Bangladeshi nationals to four months of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each in a case registered under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.

The court convicted Parimal Chandra Das (38), Nishi Das (36), Mridul Das (30), Arjun Das (30) and Helendu Das (35), all residents of Kalyani under Dhirai police station in Sunamganj district of Bangladesh.

According to the Tripura Police, the five were intercepted by personnel of PR Bari police station of Rajnagar under South Tripura district on June 14, 2026, after police received information that some Bangladeshi nationals had hired a white Maruti Ertiga bearing registration number TR03-L-0394 from the Radhanagar area with the assistance of an Indian tout and were travelling towards Agartala via Rangamura.

A police team subsequently laid a Naka at Rangamura and intercepted the vehicle, arresting the five Bangladeshi nationals.

The accused were prosecuted under Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act in connection with PR Bari police station Case No. 17/2026, registered under Sections 21/23/24 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act and Sections 183/184/187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Following investigation, Sub-Inspector (SI) Bikash Debnath of PR Bari police station submitted the charge-sheet on August 11, 2026. The trial court subsequently found all five accused guilty and sentenced them to four months’ simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 each.

In default of payment of the fine, each of them will have to undergo an additional one month of simple imprisonment.
