Four women drug peddlers arrested with Yaba Tablets, worth Rs. 4 Cr from North and Unakoti districts
In two successive operations, Tripura police has seized huge quantities of contraband Yaba (Methamphetamine) tablets, worth Rs. 4 crore from two separate Railway stations of North Tripura and Unakoti districts and arrested four women drug peddlers.
Giving details, SP of North Tripura district Avinash Roy said that based on intelligence inputs , police have managed to arrest three suspected women drug peddlers from Dharmanagar Railway station, who were coming from Assam.
He said that based on the information, a police team intercepted them in Railway station, but sensing police raid, they tried to escape towards Dharmanagar town, but police personnel from Dharmanagar police station led by OC Mina Debbarma detained them.
In the course of search in their bodies, police recovered 220 packets of Yaba tablets, worth of Rs. 2.5 crore, said SP and added that all three drug peddlers were arrested and they were identified as Mafia begum (55) of Sonamura, Aafiya Begum (58) of Kakrabon and Ankuri Bibi (40) of Sepahijala district.
Roy also said that during preliminary interrogation, arrested drug peddlers revealed that they collected these contraband items from Assam and will have to deliver the consignment to a drug smuggler in Sonamura area of Sepahijala district. He said that they will be produced before a local court with police remand appeals for further interrogation under a specific case of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In another successful operation, the Unakoti district police arrested another woman drug peddler from Kumarghat Railway station with large quantities of Yaba tablets, worth Rs. 1.5 crore, who was travelling through Silchar-Agartala express train.
Police sources said that based on the intelligence input, police laid a trap at the Kumarghat Railway station and when, that suspected lady after arrival at the station, tried to board in a passenger car, police detained her.
Police said that the arrested woman drug peddler was identified as Aliya Khatun (49) of Boxanagar area of Sepahijala district and during search, a total of 26,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from her body and bags. She will also be produced before court under specific NDPS Act case on Tuesday for further legal proceedings.
