GMP 23rd state conference in Agartala on Jan 29–30; Brinda Karat to address open rally
The 23rd Central Conference of the Tripura Adivasi Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) will be held on January 29 and 30 at the Agartala Town Hall.
Addressing a press conference at the CPI(M) state headquarters here on Tuesday afternoon, GMP state president Naresh Jamatia and general secretary Radhacharan Debbarma, along with former MLA Pranab Debbarma, said that around 550 delegates will participate in the conference. The delegates will represent 23 subdivisions, 157 local committees, and 796 units across the state.
The open session, to be held as a public rally, will be addressed by veteran CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat and CPI(M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury. During the rally, a charter of demands aimed at strengthening the party’s struggle for public welfare will be announced.
The charter of demands will include filling up all existing vacancies in government departments, restoration and revitalization of the MGNREGA programme, and several other issues closely related to public interest, Radhacharan Debbarma said.
He further informed that the organization’s membership has grown to nearly 88,000 this year compared to 2022. Conferences from the primary level to the subdivision level have been conducted successfully, witnessing significant participation from youths.
The main objective of this year’s conference is to intensify the fight against divisive politics. Key discussions will focus on filling vacant government posts, implementation of the MGNREGA scheme, employment, and other livelihood-related issues, he added.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury appealed to party workers, supporters, and GMP activists to ensure the success of the conference, which is being held after the completion of a series of primary and subdivisional committee conferences across tribal-dominated areas of the state.
