Gramin Bharat Bandh evokes thin response across Tripura

Gramin Bharat (rural India) Bandh called by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and central trade union (CITU) evokes no response across the rural Tripura, but the activists of SKM and CITU staged demonstration and road blockade agitation in few parts of the state including in capital city Agartala.

The supporters of SKM and CITU in Agartala have also organized rallies protesting attacks on farmers in Delhi and Chandigarh. They also organized a road blockade programme in Agartala for an hour.

While, addressing a press conference here at CITU office, former minister Manik Dey and former MP Sankar Prasad Datta claimed that large section of workers from organized and unorganized sectors braving massive threats and intimidation by BMS activists supported the bandh and many transport workers have also supported the call and remain off the road.

They also said that expressing solidarity with the protesting farmers, many employees of state government and private public transport bus operators in Tripura had also observed the strike from morning 6 AM to 4 PM in the afternoon.

The impact of the shutdown, named ‘Bharat Bandh’, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. was also not seen in the movements of rail communication and national highways and shops and commercial establishments have also functioned normally.

Reports from subdivisional towns of the state said that Bandh has also not any impact on normal lives, but less number of vehicles seen in many highways of the state.

Sufficient security arrangements were made in the state to prevent any untoward incident, said a senior police official.
