Hojagiri artists of Tripura astonish audience at Central Silk Board's Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Agartala-based cultural group Aisri Bodol wowed the audience with a mesmerizing performance of the traditional Hojagiri dance during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Central Silk Board, held on the 20th and 21st of September 2024 in Mysore and Bengaluru.

The event, which marked 75 years of the Central Silk Board's contribution to India's silk industry, witnessed various cultural performances from across the country. However, Aisri Bodol's presentation stood out, capturing the essence of Tripura's rich cultural heritage through the rhythmic and visually captivating Hojagiri dance.

Hojagiri, an indigenous dance form performed by the Reang (Bru) community of Tripura, is known for its intricate footwork and balancing acts. The dancers, mostly women, balanced earthen pots on their heads while performing complex movements, all while standing on earthen pitchers.

The precision and grace displayed by Aisri Bodol during their act left the audience spellbound.

The group’s participation in such a prestigious event not only highlights the talent emerging from Tripura but also helps in preserving and promoting the cultural traditions of the state on a national stage representing Tripura's vibrant culture at such a significant national event.

The Central Silk Board's Platinum Jubilee celebrations were attended by various dignitaries, including central and state government officials, silk industry experts, and cultural enthusiasts.

The event not only focused on celebrating the journey of the silk industry in India but also aimed to highlight the country's diverse cultural heritage through performances like that of Aisri Bodol.

The performance was met with widespread applause, further cementing Tripura's reputation for producing world-class traditional artists and performers.
