Huge quantities of contraband items recovered from Rani Kamalapati express
In another successful operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) posted at Agartala Railway station seized huge quantities of contraband cough syrup and Ganja from Rani Kamalapati express on Sunday.
Giving details, Assistant Commandant of RPF, BK Sinha of Agartala station said that forces have specific information that a huge quantity of contraband items loaded in the Rani Kamalapati express and the consignment will reach Agartala on Sunday.
Based on the information, a contingent of RPF started guarding the compartment of the express train from Dharmanagar station, which was coming from Mumbai towards Agartala, said BK Sinha.
He said that when the train reached Agartala station, forces seized some suspected consignments and during the search recovered a total of 1775 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup and 23 kilograms of dry Ganja (Cannabis).
He said that forces were unable to arrest any suspected smugglers associated with these seized contraband items, but claimed that it’s a big achievement of the RPF posted at Agartala Railway station.
While, Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a specific case over the seizure of contraband items from Rani Kamalapati express and started an investigation to trace the sources of these contraband items.
GRP said that seized Eskuf has market value of Rs. 7.10 lakh and seized Ganja has market value of Rs. 2.76 lakh.
It may be recalled here that Agartala Railway station, which is now connected with many major cities of the country, has become a hot destination from transportation of smuggling of narcotic and contraband items. It has also registered the highest detention of Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators, who were after crossing international border with Bangladesh with active help of traffickers or touts reached Agartala to board into long distance trains.
Officials said that all the Bangladeshis and Rohingyas illegally entered Tripura to board trains or buses to go to other states in India “in search of jobs”.
