Husband arrested for gang-raping disabled wife, six other accused still absconding
In a bizarre incident, a husband was arrested by Amtali police station of Agartala on Wednesday for allegedly gang-raping his 75% disabled wife with six other friends in intoxicated condition.
Police sources said that the accused husband, identified as Subrata Dey from the Jogendranagar area of Agartala city, was taken into custody while six other suspects remain on the run.
Police added that Subrata Dey, engaged as a blood collector in a pathology , who lived as a house-in-law in his wife’s home in the Chowmuhani Bazar area under Amtali police station hosted a boozing party with friends on January 5 this year. After consuming alcohol, Subrata and his friends forcefully assaulted and raped his disabled housewife in an intoxicated condition.
Giving details of the case, Investigation Officer (IO) of Amtali police station, Women Sub-Inspector (SI) Sushmita Debnath said that the father of victim girl lodged an FIR against Subrata Dey and six others rape accused at their police station on March 14 last.
She said that based on the complaints, police arrested prime accused Subrata Dey from his residence in Jogendranagar area under East Agartala police station under several sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and has produced before a local court with police remand appeals for interrogation.
She said that the investigation is on in the fastest way and hoped that during interrogation, police will be able collect information of six other accused persons and will soon also be able to arrest them.
Meanwhile, the case has sparked outrage, with demands for stringent punishment for the perpetrators. The police assured that justice would be served, emphasizing that all efforts are being made to ensure the arrest of the remaining accused and to ensure justice to disabled girl.
