According to police sources, the couple — Jagannath Das and Beauty Das — had been living as tenants in the house of Tapan Sarkar near the Hariom Aajachak Ashram area under Amtali Police Station. They were reportedly involved in frequent quarrels over petty family issues.
On Saturday midnight, after another dispute, Jagannath Das allegedly strangled his wife Beauty Das. On Sunday morning, he took her to Tripura Medical College (TMC) in Hapania, where doctors declared her brought dead. Upon hearing the declaration, the accused fled from the hospital premises.
Doctors at the TMC emergency unit immediately informed the police about the incident. Shortly thereafter, Jagannath Das appeared at Amtali Police Station, surrendered, and confessed to the crime.
SDPO (Amtali) Paramita Pandey confirmed that the accused had been arrested and that a murder case had been registered. Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das, along with the SDPO, forensic team, and dog squad, visited the crime scene for investigation.
The SDPO added that a post-mortem was conducted, and the body of Beauty Das was later handed over to her family members for last rites.
