IIIT, Agartala student Ansh Goyel selected mentor for Google GSoC programme

In an impressive achievement, Ansh Goyel, a 3rd year student of B.Tech  in Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Agartala, Tripura , has been selected to work as a mentor for the prestigious Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2024 programme (https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/). Director of IIIT,Agartala, Prof Abhoy Kumar said this adding that GSOC is essentially an internship which helps greatly in getting corporate job worldwide.

He said under the programme, Ansh will be mentoring the GSoC participants in the project "Script Stability Enhancement for AsyncAPI website" under the organization "Postman." Ansh has previous experience as Linux Foundation LFX Mentee under Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). Considering his prior experiences in open-source projects, he has been called by the "Postman" for mentoring in GSoC 2024. Ansh Kumar said that he would mentor the program for next six months from this month, May 2024.

Ansh, who is a permanent resident of Haryana and studying in IIIT, Agartala further informed that he is presently undertaking internship training programme under LinkedIn.

Talking about the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program, Prof Kumar said the GSoC is an annual program sponsored by Google LLC that encourages university students from around the world to contribute to open-source software development. Since its inception in 2005, GSoC has been fostering the spirit of innovation by introducing developers to open-source development. In GsoC , contributors work on a 12+ week programming projects of open source organization  under the guidance of their mentors.

Mr Kumar further said that GSoC is a competition area for aspiring developers with a rigorous selection process. It is open to university students worldwide who are 18 years or older. Selected contributors get a stipend ranging from $1,500 to $3,300. However, GSoC offers invaluable experience and networking opportunities with potential pathways to internships and jobs in the tech companies.
