In a major successful operation, the Dhalai district police on Sunday foiled transportation bid of big narcotic item and managed detained car with large quantities of contraband cough syrup Eskuf.
Police sources said that during regular Naka checking of vehicles at the Bethbagan portion of National Highway-8 under Ambassa police station in Dhalai district, police signaled the vehicle to stop. However, the driver allegedly attempted to flee by breaking through the Naka checkpoint. Police immediately launched a chase, following the vehicle as the driver tried to escape through a forest road in the Nailaha Bari area. Later, police detained the vehicle (Mahindra Scorpio) bearing registration number TR01 AL 0314.
During a subsequent search of the Scorpio, police recovered around 220 bottles of Eskuf syrup. Preliminary investigation suggests that the contraband cough syrup was being transported from outside the state with the intention of smuggling it into Agartala.
After the incident was reported, SDPO of Ambassa, Nirupam Dutta, and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ambassa police station, Nandan Das, rushed to the spot and seized the vehicle along with contraband items.
The recovered Scorpio vehicle has been brought to Ambassa police station and further investigation into the incident is underway.
